Networks now control the elections
January 22, 2008
The media manipulation of this year’s election has been absolutely mind-blowing. Who has been the nominee-apparent for the better part of the last 12 months? Rudy Giuliani. Yet, Rudy hasn’t won a single primary or caucus. He’s yet to even come close. He was leading in all those early states as late as December yet nobody is suggesting Rudy drop out.
Meanwhile, Mitt Romney stumbles in Iowa and only comes in second and there are predictions that his campaign has hit the rocks and he’ll soon drop out. He finishes behind John McCain in New Hampshire and they close in for the kill. A win in Michigan silenced the hounds for a few days then his fourth-place finish in South Carolina brought about a renewed call for him to quit. To date, Romney has won three races while McCain has won two and it’s Romney the mainstream media are focused on, waiting to pounce.
Meanwhile, Fred Thompson, who was never going to be able to live up to the hype built up before he even entered the race, finished third in Iowa. That wasn’t good enough. Forget the fact that he finished ahead of John McCain, the political vultures were circling his campaign even as it barely got off the starting block. Notice how they never even suggested that McCain call it quits. And even though he came from behind to finish third in South Carolina, the pundits deemed that miraculous turnaround lackluster and wondered aloud when Fred would throw in the towel.
Mike Huckabee, who came on strong in Iowa but hasn’t won since, has not been subjected to the same scrutiny as Romney or Thompson. His win in Iowa was supposed to solidify his status as a front-runner. It hasn’t worked out that way thus far but no one is calling for his head.
Ron Paul has been totally discounted by the kingmakers in the media despite the fact that he has finished ahead of Rudy Giuliani in all but two states.
Here’s how the delegate count stacks up so far. Romney is in the lead with 72 delegates. John McCain is a distant second with 38. Huckabee has 29, Thompson has 8, Ron Paul has 6, Giuliani has 2 and Duncan Hunter, who dropped out the day of the South Carolina primary, has 1 delegate. You have to have 1,191 to secure the nomination. This thing is far from over but Super Tuesday will give us a much better idea of who the nominee will be. There are 1,048 delegates up for grabs that day. We still may not have a clear winner but we should have a much better idea of who has a chance than we do right now.
Have you begun to pick up on the pattern yet? Giuliani, McCain and Huckabee are given a pass when it comes to expectations. Why? Because all of these moderate candidates are palatable to the mainstream media. Giuliani isn’t much different from Hillary Clinton on many social issues. McCain and Huckabee are both soft on illegal immigration and big on the global warming farce. Notice how the true conservatives have been marginalized by the media elites. We started out with four true conservatives in the race – Thompson, Paul, Hunter and Congressman Tom Tancredo. Mitt Romney seems to be a born-again conservative; certainly enough to be considered a threat by the mainstream media. Slowly but surely, the conservatives have been ridiculed, badgered or ignored out of the race. What will be left standing after Super Tuesday are the chosen few. Is this any way to elect a president?
