The 20/20 Charity Index
We at The Phil
Valentine Show want to make it easier for you to contribute
your hard-earned money with confidence. The trouble
is, many people are wary of giving because they don't really
know how their money will be spent. We want to help
break down that barrier. That's why we have developed
the 20/20 Charity Index, to give you the information
you need at a glance. That's 20/20 as in 20/20 vision,
so donors can give with their eyes wide open.
How
to read the numbers: It's actually
very simple. The number before the slash is what percentage
of money raised by the charity actually goes to the charitable
work. The number after the slash indicates what percentage
of your donation goes to fundraising and administrative
costs. In other words, an 80/20 charity gives 80 percent
of your money to the charity and uses 20 percent for administrative
and fundraising costs. Keep in mind that some of these
charities, during national and international disasters,
earmark a larger percentage of donations directly for the
relief effort. There is no way to distinguish those
contributions from the standard operating procedure of the
charity, therefore, the 20/20 Charity Index is
meant merely as a guide to give you an overview of the charity.
