Big Media Ignore President's Iraq Evidence
October 9, 2002
The utter desperation of the Washington liberals is showing, just weeks before the mid-term elections. They've been screaming that President Bush hasn't made the case for slapping back Iraq. They've been crying that the president hasn't given the American people the evidence to support such action. So, the president did just that in a televised speech from Cincinnati and the big three – ABC, NBC and CBS – chose to ignore it. Actually, this may be a blessing in disguise. Anyone more interested in a sitcom than our country possibly going to war probably shouldn't be part of this intellectual discussion anyway.
Still, the actions of the Big Three are indicative of their unstated desires. Many on the left want to keep the American people in the dark, at least until after the elections, so they can score political points and keep the Republicans from tightening their grip on Congress. These folks aren't stupid. They read the polls. They know that debating Bush on Iraq is certain death for them so they either attempt to conceal the truth or they change the subject.
The big rally cry from Democrats these days is that Bush and the Republicans are ignoring the economy. So, the GOP-led House of Representatives came up with a plan last week to allow investors to write off more of their investment losses. They also proposed extending the age at which you have to withdraw money from your 401(k) from 70½-years-old to 75, to give older investors a little more time to recoup their losses. You'd think the Democrats would've jumped on these measures like white on rice, but no. They claimed the Republicans were trying to get votes and they wouldn't go along with it. Can you believe that? I can. It's par for the course with this current crop of Democratic leaders.
In fact, the whole lot of Democrats on the national level ain't looking to sporty. If you're a Democrat you have Tom Daschle, Hillary Clinton, Barney Frank and ‘Baghdad Jim' McDermott running the show. It's bound to be painful to some of the more even-keeled Democrats seeking office on the local level. The party of FDR and JFK has been hijacked by some of the most partisan hacks and left-wing losers ever to grace the political stage. What's worse, they control the senate. And not by being voted into the majority, either. Thank you Jim Jeffords.
One thing the American people understand is that being an elected official is about leadership. The president has articulated a clear and present danger in allowing Iraq to amass more weapons unchecked. He and his colleagues in the house have mapped out a plan to help ease the pain of the current stock market downturn. Mind you, there's only so much a president can or should do in such a time. Even so, the Democrats have tried to block him at every turn. Heck, they can't even follow, much less lead. The voters have a clear choice this November as to who is giving lip service to our problems and who is actually trying to do something about it.
Tom Daschle is like the guy in the office who gets to be boss when the real boss is away on a business trip. The power goes to his head and he becomes a real jerk. It's time to take Tom's power away before he hurts himself . . . and us.
