Nashville Peace and Justice Center.  Communist Links?

March 26, 2003

Much has been made of the peace protesters in this column and elsewhere.   After learning that the Washington protests were organized by the Workers World Party, I began checking into who these people are.   “What is our basic view? We're for socialism,” their website states.   You can see it for yourself at www.workers.org/wwp.php .   “The capitalist profit system is unplanned and irrational. It's wrecking the world,” they maintain.   Another Workers World Party site explains their mission thusly: “A national Marxist-Leninist party promoting socialism, supporting working class struggles and lesbian/gay/bi/trans liberation [and] organizing protests.”

Understand that this is the antithesis of America.   These people want to destroy your way of life and your country and rebuild it in the image of the old Soviet Union.

Having learned that the Workers World Party was behind the protests in Washington and other cities across the country, I turned my attention to the organizers of the Nashville-area protests – The Nashville Peace and Justice Center.   What I found was absolutely frightening.

The Nashville Peace and Justice Center lists among its organizing members CPUSA.   That’s the Communist Party USA.   They also list the Democratic Socialists of America.   You can see this for yourself by visiting www.rfnash.org/peace.htm .   Upon further investigation, I learned that the Communist Party USA website listed the address of its Middle Tennessee Chapter as 1016 18th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37212.   That’s the exact same address as the Nashville Peace and Justice Center.   Fox 17 News heard our broadcast and investigated themselves, coming to the same conclusion.

I confronted Matt Leber, NPJC’s director, with this information.   At first he denied any affiliation with the Communist Party then admitted that they were part of his group.   After exposing the link between the NPJC and the CPUSA, the address for the Middle Tennessee Chapter of CPUSA was removed from their website.   However, I made printed copies of the original page and archives are still available on the Internet.

A spokeswoman for the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation, listed alongside the Communist Party as a member organization of the NPJC, at first denied any association with the Communist Party.   After pressing the issue with the facts on the web site, she admitted that they were aware the CPUSA was a member with them but argued it was a “big tent” large enough to include different points of view.   A big tent?   A big tent would include Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians and Reform Party members.   The CPUSA is trying to destroy the tent!

I inquired of the lady at the Jewish Federation if they would remain a member if the American Nazi Party joined.   “Of course not,” she answered.   So let me get this straight.   She refuses to associate with an organization that’s known to have killed 6 million Jews but has no problem associating with an organization which, at last count, has butchered over 170 million people worldwide.

Understand, I’m not saying that opposing this war with Iraq makes you a communist or un-American.   What I’m saying is, you have to be careful of the company you keep.   These so-called peace protests are being organized by enemies of this country and innocent citizens are being duped into participating.

The Nashville Peace and Justice Center is, at best, affiliated with CPUSA.   I believe the fact that they share the same address points to a far more serious connection.   Visit their website listed above and draw your own conclusion.   The NPJC is on notice.   I know who you are and I will not rest until everyone in this area knows the truth, too.
