Tax Cuts Are For People Who Pay Taxes
June 11, 2003
It’s time to take the gloves off in this ridiculous squabble over tax cuts. The liberals on the left are lying to you, plain and simple. They spout off numbers left and right decrying the fact that “the rich” will get the lion’s share of the tax cuts. What they don’t tell you is “the rich” pay most of the taxes.
For example, the latest IRS numbers show that the top 5 percent of wage earners pays 56 percent of the income taxes. Fifty-six percent! Conversely, the bottom half pays only 4 percent. Who do you think needs a tax cut, for crying out loud? These purveyors of propaganda never tell you the whole story. They pick and choose morsels of half-truths in order to perpetuate the class envy. It’s the lifeblood of liberalism. Without class envy, they’re doomed. Without deceit, there’s no class envy.
Nowhere is their deceit more evident than in the recent debate over who gets the increase in the child tax credit. Those who pay taxes will see an increase in the per-child tax credit from $600 to $1,000. Congressman Charlie Rangel and the other poverty pimps cried out, “What about those who don’t earn enough to pay income taxes?” Yeah, what about ‘em? This is a tax cut, Charlie. It’s for those who actually pay taxes!
Not that we shouldn’t be concerned about the poor. Those who can’t help themselves should be helped by the rest of us. The folks Charlie Rangel is worried about are those who help themselves to our money. I, quite frankly, am sick and tired of it. We spend more than enough money on the less fortunate. Over 58 percent of our federal budget is spent on social programs. By comparison, only about 16 percent goes to national defense. Occasionally, we need to ease the burden on those who actually make the economy work.
I’m also sick and tired of the rhetoric and outright lies coming from the left. It’s time we use their own logic against them.
President Bush should hold a press conference and announce the following: We have a new proposal to aid those Americans currently so poor that they don’t pay income taxes. Beginning with this new tax-cut bill, those Americans currently not paying income taxes will have their income tax burden reduced by 90 percent.
Hey, if they’re buying this child tax credit for those who don’t pay taxes they should swallow this, too. It’s what’s I’ve come to label as “liberal logic.” Liberal logic says that corporate greed and cold-hearted conservatism cause AIDS. Liberal logic says that smoking pot with your kids at home will keep them from doing it outside the home. Liberal logic says that paying people to sit on their fat fannies will make them more productive citizens.
Liberals think that the government needs more money but what they actually mean is that the government needs more of your money, not theirs. You want to shut a liberal down on this argument? For those who insist the government needs more money “to help the poor” ask them one simple question. Do you itemize on your income tax return? Well, of course, is their answer. Why? If the government needs more money, why don’t you pay the maximum tax on your gross income instead of trying to hide money from Uncle Sam. The standard response is: Everybody else itemizes.
